Children Dental Services:

We cannot overemphasize the importance of the first visit and /or the exposure a child receives regarding their first visit to a dental office.

The sooner the child gets familiar with and comfortable in a dental environment the better. On average, 2¹/₂ to 3 years of age is ideal for a child's' first scheduled appointment. But even before that it is helpful to introduce the child to the office where they are not going to experience any stress related to their first visit or treatment of a problem. We suggest your child accompany a parent or sibling to one of their appointments.

The following is a partial list of some of our suggestions:

• Make the dental visit either upbeat or neutral and do not promise a “special treat” if they are good. Your child and you should not feel there is anything negative or anything to fear about a dental visit.
• Try to choose a good time of day
• On or before your child's first visit please ask any questions regarding proper oral hygiene, diet, supplementation of vitamins or any other areas of concern you may have.
• We strongly suggest that you do not give your child vitamins containing fluoride. We do however advocate toothpaste with fluoride with as few chemicals as possible such as “Toms” brand.

How your child perceives his first exposure to a dental office, oral hygiene and diet will potentially affect that child for the rest of his or her life.
